New Mackie Product

Just about year ago, I spent about 3 weeks doing contract work for my previous employer, LOUD Technologies, and created detailed concept drawings for these two products. There are a few major details that are different from my concepts, but these final products are, for the most part, as I designed. More details at http://www.mackie.com/products/onyxinterfaces/

New Location!

I have not been able to update anything for a while. One of the reasons is, thankfully, I have been very busy working on various projects, but the biggest reason is my move from Seattle WA area to Boise ID. From March 1st, The Famous Potato state is the new home for PlusoneID. There are a few negatives come with this move, such as hard to meet in person with Seattle area people, or no good sushi. But this move makes my overhead lower and allows me to provide even better value for my service.

I am currently working on a project that requires most of my attention until the end of July, but I am always willing to talk with you regarding your new product ideas.

Hitodama

I just created this concept design for hanging light. The idea came to me when I was searching for OLED technology. I came across the website developing OLED light that can be applied to the window blind, ceiling, wall, etc. First I thought it is really cool, then I thought, "does that mean there is no use for lighting fixture and put light fixture designers out of job?". Then I realize, that means the light can be purely decorative and more art than functional products. It has already been that way but it could be even more so.

So this light is designed to be purely decorative, more to create the atmosphere of rooms. It is a mobile with lights, either with OLED or LED. It moves as the air of the room moves, creating constantly changing light. When it's off, it still interesting to look at.

Hitodama is ghostly figure, Burning fire ball-human spirit of Japan.

More Robot pics

I was just messing with the setting of the rendering program to experiment and to learn the different lighting effect. Most of the shots for industrial design objects are in a well lit environment with spot lights or diffused lights. At least that had been my case. I also wanted to try to create emissive parts for future projects.

Happy 2010

2010 is the year of Tiger, so I decided to draw a tiger and sent it as a new year email card. Some of you may have received it but for others, this is what I drew: a Triumph 110 Tiger from unknown year.  The word for Tiger is "TORA" in Japan, and Triumph is pronounced more like Tora-e-anfu. So this is a picture of Tiger-Tiger. What's more appropriate than this for the year of Tiger (don't say just a normal tiger. Boring).
